It's always interesting to see who makes an impact, big and small in the world. No matter what subject matter they may touch. Still, know these people, or at least a handful, may be important in know what people are capable of. Here are ten amazing figures in society, that have left there mark. Minimally to broadly. 1. Roman Abramovich - Born 24 October 1966. A Russian billionaire and the main owner of the private investment company Millhouse LLC. According to Forbes magazine, as of 11 March 2009, he had a net worth of US$8.5 billion, grading him as the 51st richest person in the world. Previous to the financial crisis, he was measured to be the second richest person living within the United Kingdom. Early in 2009, The Times projected that due to the global economic crisis he has lost £3 billion from his £11.7 billion wealth. That's $4.86 billion from $18.954 billion. In 2003, Abramovich was identified as Person of the Year by Expert, a Russian business magazine. He split this title with Mikhail Khodorkovsky. He is known outside Russia as the owner of Chelsea Football Club, an English Premier League football team, and for his broad participation in European football. His accomplishments: ·In 1989 Abramovich was chairman of a plastic toy-manufacturing plant, and by 1995 he had set up five free-enterprise companies that engaged in production, selling and buying of consumer goods. Eventually he specialised in the oil trade. ·After Sibneft, Abramovich then focused on the aluminum industry, investing in RUSAL aluminum oil. He later sold his 25% stake for $1.8bn. ·With wealth followed political connections and his well-founded friendship with President Boris Yeltsin. In 1999 Abramovich added further to his accomplishments when he was elected governor of the eastern province of Chukotka. 2. Mukesh Ambani - Born on April 19, 1957 in Aden, Yemen. An Indian engineer and businessman. He is the chairman, managing director and the largest shareholder of Reliance Industries, India's largest private sector enterprise and a Fortune 500 company, whilst he got financed by acquisitioning large standby letters of credit, which were capitalized by several Swiss banks which imparted him secure loans for the purchase. His personal investment in Reliance Industries is 48%. His wealth is prized at $32 Billion by Forbes, making him India's wealthiest person. Mukesh and his younger brother Anil are sons of the late founder of Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai Ambani. Anil Ambani is also a billionaire and owns another company - Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group. Mukesh also owns the Indian Premier League team Mumbai Indians. His accomplishments: ·Chairman of Reliance Industries, as India's premiere capitalist, directing sprawling business operations that include petrochemicals, oil refining, textiles, retail and biotechnology. 3. David Chang - Born August 5, 1977. A distinguished Korean-American chef. He is chef/owner of Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ko and Momofuku Ssäm Bar in New York City. Chang attended Trinity College, where he majored in religious studies. Chang later attended the French Culinary Institute (FCI). In 2003, Chang commenced his first restaurant, Momofuku Noodle Bar in the East Village. "Momofuku" in Japanese accurately means "lucky peach," and is likely a suggestion to Momofuku Ando - the inventor of instant noodles. In August 2006, Chang's second restaurant, Momofuku Ssäm Bar, opened a few blocks away. In March 2008, Chang opened Momofuku Ko, a 12 seat restaurant that takes reservations six days in advance, online only, on a first-come-first-served basis, devoid of regard to social status or income. The highly limited seating, along with Chang's popularity in New York, has caused a fracas, spawning irritation for equally prominent and run of the mill people who have failed to obtain a reservation. In November 2008, Chang expanded Momofuku Ssäm Bar into a neighboring space, which he named Momofuku Bakery & Milk Bar. This new take over serves Chang's famous pork buns and soft serve, along with cookies, pies, cakes and other treats. In May 2009 it was reported that Momofuko Bakery & Milk Bar's Crack Pie, Cereal Milk, and Compost Cookies are in development of being trademarked and that the first Momofuku cookbook, written by David Chang and NYT writer Peter Meehan, will be published in October 2009. His accomplishments: Well, says this about his biggest accomplishment, "I don't look at it like that. Accomplishments are in the past. I look to the future." Bill Clinton - Born William Jefferson Blythe III, August 19, 1946. He was the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. He was the third-youngest president; only Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy were younger when entering office. He became president at the end of the Cold War, and as he was born in the period after World War II, he is known as the first Baby Boomer president. Clinton was depicted as a New Democrat and was largely known for the Third Way philosophy of governance that came to characterize his two terms as president. Third Way philosophy is a idiom that has been used to illustrate a political standpoint which challenges to go beyond right-wing and left-wing politics by being in favor of a combination of some right-wing and left-wing economic guiding principles. Third Way methods are frequently considered from within the first- and second-way perceptions as on behalf of a centrist cooperation between free market capitalism and democratic socialism. However, proponents of third way philosophies see it has something ahead of free market capitalism and democratic socialism. This assertion is personified in the substitute explanation of the Third Way as the Radical center. Historical invocations of a political 'third way', in this sense, or a 'middle way', have incorporated the Fabian Socialism, Distributism, Technocracy (bureaucratic), Keynesian economics, Italian fascism under Benito Mussolini , Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, and Harold Macmillan's 1950s One Nation Conservatism. His policies, on subjects such as the North American Free Trade Agreement and welfare reform, have been described as centrist. Clinton supervised the longest period of peace-time economic expansion in American history (wish we had that again, it would be nice), which integrated a well-adjusted budget and a commentary federal surplus. Established on Congressional accounting regulations, at the end of his presidency Clinton conveyed a surfeit of $559 billion. On the heels of a failed attempt at health care reform with a Democratic Congress, Republicans won control of the House of Representatives for the first time in forty years. Two years later, in 1996, Clinton was re-elected and became the first member of the Democratic Party since Franklin D. Roosevelt to win a second term as president. Later he was impeached for obstruction of justice, but was consequently exonerated by the U.S. Senate. I didn't really care what he did, he was still a good president. That's my thoughts. And I was very young when he went into office. Clinton left office with an approval rating at 66%, the highest end of office rating of any president since World War II. Since then, he has been occupied in public speaking and humanitarian work. Clinton created the William J. Clinton Foundation to sponsor and direct international causes such as treatment and prevention of HIV/AIDS and global warming. In 2004, he released his autobiography My Life, and was involved in his wife Hillary's 2008 presidential campaign and subsequently in that of President Barack Obama. Is the 67th United States Secretary of State, operating within the administration of President Barack Obama. She was a United States Senator for New York from 2001 to 2009. In the 2008 election H. Clinton was a primary candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination. A native of Illinois, Hillary Rodham attracted national attention in 1969 for her remarks as the first student commencing speaker at Wellesley College. She boarded on a profession in law after graduating from Yale Law School in 1973. Following a stretch as a Congressional legal advocate. Rodham co-founded the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families in 1977, and became the first female chair of the Legal Services Corporation in 1978. Designated the first female collaborator at Rose Law Firm in 1979, she was twice listed as one of the 100 most significant lawyers in America. First Lady of Arkansas from 1979 to 1981 and 1983 to 1992 with husband Bill as Governor, she effectively commanded a task force to restructure Arkansas's education system. She sat on the board of directors of Wal-Mart and several other corporations. In 1994 as First Lady of the United States, her major proposal, the Clinton health care plan, failed to gain endorsement from the U.S. Congress. However, in 1997 and 1999, Clinton participated in a role in promoting the institution of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Adoption and Safe Families Act, and the Foster Care Independence Act. Her time as First Lady illustrated a polarized comeback from the American public. She is the only First Lady to have been subpoenaed, giving evidence before a federal grand jury in 1996 due to the Whitewater controversy, but was never indicted with any illegal behavior in this or any of a number of other investigations during her husband's administration. After moving to the state of New York, Clinton was elected as a U.S. Senator in 2000. That election marked the first time an American First Lady had run for public office; Clinton was also the first female senator to stand for the state. In the Senate, she initially maintained the Bush administration on some foreign policy issues, including a vote for the Iraq War Resolution. She later opposed the administration on its demeanor of the war in Iraq and on nearly all domestic issues. Senator Clinton was reelected by a wide margin in 2006. In the 2008 presidential nomination race, Hillary Clinton won more primaries and delegates than any other female candidate in American history, but narrowly lost to Senator Barack Obama. As Secretary of State, Clinton became the first former First Lady to serve in a president's cabinet. I don't think we need to establish a list of accomplishments on this person. 6. Guillermo Del Toro - Born 9 October 1964. An Academy Award-nominated Mexican director, producer, screenwriter and designer whose work has gained both critical commendation and a dedicated fanbase. He is more often than not known for his acclaimed films, Pan's Labyrinth and the Hellboy film franchise. He is a recurrent collaborator with Ron Perlman and Doug Jones. His films draw heavily on sources as diverse as weird fiction, fantasy and war. Projects he has and will be working on: 1986 Dona Herlinda and Her Son, 1993 Cronos, 1996 Borthwick, le retour, 1997 Mimic, 1998 Un Embrujo, 2001 The Devil's Backbone, 2002 Asesino en serio Yes Blade II, 2004 Crónicas, Hellboy, 2006 Hellboy: Sword of Storms, Pan's Labyrinth, 2007 Hellboy: Blood and Iron, The Orphanage, 2008 While She Was Out, Rudo y Cursi, Cosas insignificantes, Eskalofrío, Hellboy II: The Golden Army, 2009 Splice, 2010 Biutiful, 2010 Julia's Eyes, 2010 Hater, 2011 The Hobbit, Part One, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, 2012 The Hobbit, Part Two, Doctor Strange, and TBA Pinocchio. 7. Deng Xiaoping - Born 22 August 1904, Died 19 February 1997. A prominent Chinese politician, statesman, theorist, and diplomat. As leader of the Communist Party of China, Deng became a reformer who led China towards a market economy. While Deng never held office as the head of state or the head of government, he however served as the Paramount leader of the People's Republic of China from 1978 to the early 1990s. Born into a farming background in Guang'an, Sichuan, Deng studied and worked out of the country in France in the 1920s, where he would come under the effect of Marxism. He united in the Communist Party of China in 1923. Upon his return to China he worked as a political commissar in rural regions and was believed to be a "revolutionary veteran" of the Long March. Then the origin of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Deng worked in Tibet and other southwestern regions to strengthen Communist control. He was also influential in China's economic modernization following the Great Leap Forward in the early 1960s. His economic policies came to chances with the political principles of Chairman Mao Zedong. As a consequence, he would be pardoned twice during the Cultural Revolution but recuperated distinction in 1978 by outmaneuvering Mao's chosen heir, Hua Guofeng. Acceding to a country warped with social and institutional afflictions left over from the Cultural Revolution and other accumulated political engagements of the Mao era, Deng became the center of the "second generation" of Chinese leadership. He is called "the architect" of a new brand of socialist thinking, having urbanized Socialism with Chinese distinctiveness and led Chinese economic reform through a fusion of theories that became known as the "socialist market economy". Deng opened China to foreign venture, the global market, and limited private competition. He is by and large accredited with moving forward China into becoming one of the highest growing economies in the world and immeasurably raising the standard of living. Read in depth descriptions of his accomplishments to the Chinese at http://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/Deng_Xiaoping#Re-emergence_of_Deng For his accomplishments are well defined. 8. Larry Page and Sergey Brin - Google Inc. is an American public corporation focusing in Internet search. It also breeds profits from advertising bought on its correspondingly free-to-user e-mail, online mapping, office productivity, social networking and video-sharing services. Advert-free versions are available via paid subscription. Google has more recently industrialized an open source web browser and a mobile phone operating system. Its headquarters, often mentioned as the Googleplex, are in Mountain View, California. As of March 31, 2009 (2009 -03-31), the company had 19,786 full-time employees. It runs thousands of servers across the world, processing millions of search desires each day and about one petabyte of user-generated data each hour. Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while students at Stanford University. It was first included as a privately held company on September 4, 1998 (kind of like how the World Wide Web started). The primary public contribution was on August 19, 2004. It raised $1.67 billion, entailing a total value of $23 billion. Google's prompt growth has generated a progression of new products, acquisitions and partnerships beyond its core search engine. Environmentalism, philanthropy and positive employee relations were from the start allocated an imperative responsibility in institutionalizing brand image. Google has been repetitively named Fortune Magazine's Number One Best Place to Work and most powerful brand in the world. Alexa lists Google as the Internet's largely visited website. The company's stated mission from the outset was "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful." Its unofficial slogan, coined by Gmail's first engineer, Paul Buchheit, was "Don't be evil". Google has been criticized over issues of privacy of personal information, copyright and alleged censorship. 9. Ratan Tata - Born December 28, 1937, in Mumbai. He is the present-day Chairman of the Tata Group, India's largest multinational founded by Jamsedji Tata and united and expanded by later cohorts of his family. He is also the chairman of major Tata companies such as Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Tea, Tata Chemicals, The Indian Hotels Company and Tata Teleservices. 10. Danger Mouse - Brian Joseph Burton, better known by his stage name Danger Mouse, (born July 29, 1977) is an American artist and producer. He came to reputation in 2004 when he released The Grey Album, which combined acappellas from Jay-Z's The Black Album with instrumentals from the album The Beatles (also known as The White Album). He created Gnarls Barkley with Cee-Lo Green and produced their albums St. Elsewhere and The Odd Couple. He produced the second Gorillaz album, 2005's Demon Days, as well as Beck's 2008 record, Modern Guilt. He was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Producer of the Year category. Burton worked with rapper MF DOOM as DANGERDOOM and released the albums The Mouse and the Mask and Occult Hymn. On September 29, 2009, Pitchfork Media publicized Broken Bells, group effort between Danger Mouse and James Mercer of the indie rock band The Shins. The group's first album is planned for a 2010 release. In an interview for the New York Times magazine, Danger Mouse portrayed himself as an auteur, rooting his music production viewpoint on the cinematic philosophy of directors like Woody Allen. "Woody Allen was an auteur: he did his Thing, and that particular Thing was completely his own," he said. "That's what I decided to do with music. I want to create a director's role within music, which is what I tried to do on this album (St. Elsewhere).... I have to be in control of the project I'm doing. I can create different kinds of musical worlds, but the artist needs the desire to go into that world.... Musically, there is no one who has the career I want. That's why I have to use film directors as a model." Interview segments with Danger Mouse speaking about the creation of The Grey Album are featured in the 2007 Danish documentary Good Copy Bad Copy. http://www.esquire.com/features/most-influential-21st-century-1008?src=syn&dom=yah_buzz&mag=esq&ha=1&kw=ist http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Abramovich http://www.businesswings.co.uk/printArticle?objectID=799 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mukesh_Ambani http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/10/29/mukesh-ambani-billion-dollar-decisions-from-a-billion-dollar-ho/10 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Chang_(chef) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Clinton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_way_(centrism) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillary_Rodham_Clinton http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guillermo_Del_Toro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deng_Xiaoping http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratan_Tata http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danger_Mouse |
